Sports Premium Funding 2017-2018

Sports Premium funding (Approximately £17,660 for 2017-2018) is in place to ensure children are being given the opportunity to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

The Annual Subscription for the school being a member of the Telford and Wrekin Schools Sports Partnership. This gives the school access to many tournaments and competitions throughout the year, CPD for staff and children, resources and lots more.

Quality Sports coaching on a weekly basis for Years 1-6. This enables the children to be in receipt of quality sporting opportunities but it is also an opportunity to develop the skills of our own teaching staff who are asked to regularly evaluate their own teaching offer and identify their next training needs. As staff have felt more confident in their ability to teach PE, our offer has also expanded and a greater variety of sports are now being taught.

We also use some of the monies to pay for transport to events across Shropshire so we can access sporting activities with other schools.

We use the money to subsidize sports clubs to make them a little easier to afford for all of our families with additional discounts for those entitled to free school meals.

We purchase a sports coach to work with a lunchtime football club for 40 minutes per week to ensure we can compete at tournament level.

These costings do not take into account the time off in lieu offered to staff who take a regular sports club or for payment to non-teaching staff who take a regular sports club. It also does not take into account the many hours of free time given by St Mary’s staff to ensure that our children  have plenty of sporting opportunities.
